

The storms fed on the strong jet stream aloft much of the day and were reinforced by the nighttime low-level jet stream once it kicked in during the evening. From there, a tornado intensified rapidly. Storms persisted through all of that and were able to get into open and slightly more humid air near the intersection of Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas before 8 p.m. Throughout much of Friday, storms remained sub-severe as they rolled through Arkansas and Louisiana while producing flooding rainfall.Įarly attempts to produce tornadoes in Mississippi and to the west were thwarted by thick layers dry air near the ground, a relatively warmer layer of air near 15,000 feet and the convergence of storms in some areas (i.e. The thunderstorm that produced these tornadoes was the epitome of "it only takes one."
